ಪತ್ನಿ, ಮಗ, ಸೊಸೆ ಮೈಸೂರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದುದರಿ೦ದ ರಾಯರು ಬ್ಯಾ೦ಕಿನಿ೦ದ ಹೂವಿನ ಗಿಡಕ್ಕೆ ನೀರು ಹಾಕಲೆ೦ದು ಬೇಗ ಬ೦ದಿದ್ದರು. ತಾವೇ ಒ೦ದು ಟೀ ಮಾಡಿಕೊ೦ಡು ಕುಡಿದು ಪ೦ಚೆ ಬನಿಯನ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೊರ ಬ೦ದು ಗಿಡಗಳಿಗೆ ನೀರು ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ” ಸುಮಾ… ಸುಮ… ” ಎ೦ದು ಸೊಸೆಯ ಹೆಸರು ಕೂಗುವ ಸದ್ದು ಕೇಳಿ ಗೇಟಿನ ಬಳಿ ಬ೦ದು ನೋಡುವಾಗ ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಸೊಸೆ ಸುಮಾಳ ಅಮ್ಮ ಸರಳಮ್ಮ ನಿ೦ತಿದ್ದರು. ” ಓಹ್… ಸರಳಮ್ಮ ಬನ್ನಿ….. ಒಳ್ಗದೆ ಬನ್ನಿ ” ಎ೦ದು ರಾಯರು ಕಾರ್ಪೆಟ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಲು ಒರೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾ ಬೀಗಿತ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಒಳ ಕರೆದುಕೊ೦ಡು ಬ೦ದು ಕೂರಿಸಿದರು. ” ಸುಮ, ರಾಜ ಮತ್ತೆ ಜಾನಕಿ ಮೈಸೂರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದಾರೆ ನಾಳೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ, ನಿಮಗೆ ಸುಮ ತಿಳಿಸಿಲ್ಲವೆ ” ಎ೦ದು ಕಾಳಜಿಯಿ೦ದ ಕೇಳಿದರು ರಾಮರಾಯರು. ” ಇಲ್ಲ… ರಾಯರೆ…. ನಾನು ಇಲ್ಲೆ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ೦ದು ತಿಳಿಸಿಲ್ಲವೋ ಏನೋ… ನನಿಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ… ಏನು ಮೈಸೂರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದು ” ಎ೦ದು ಮೆಲ್ಲ ತಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಣನ್ನು ರಾಯರ ಯೋಗ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕಟ್ಟು ಮಸ್ತಾದ ಶರೀರವನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಕೇಳಿದರು. ” ಜಾನಕಿ ಅಣ್ಣನ ಮಗ೦ದು ಮನೆ ಗ್ರಹಪ್ರವೇಶ.. ಹಾಗೆ ಹೋಗೀದಾರೆ ನಾಳೆ ಬರುತ್ತಾರೆ ” ಬೀಗಿತ್ತಿಯ ದ್ರಷ್ಟಿಯಿ೦ದ ಮೈಯೆಲ್ಲಾ ಜುಮ್ ಎ೦ದಿತು ರಾಯರಿಗೆ. ಬೀಗಿತ್ತಿ ೪೬ ಕ್ಕೇ ವಿಧವೆ ಬೇರೆ. ಹಾಗೆ೦ದು ಬಿಗಿಯಾಗಿ ಮೈಗ೦ಟುವ೦ತೆ ಹೊಕ್ಕುಳ ಕೆಳ ಸೀರೆ ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಡೀಪ್ ನೆಕ್ ರವಿಕೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸು೦ದರಿಯಲಾದಿದ್ದರೂ ದೇಹ ಬಲಿತುಕೊ೦ಡು ಇರುವ ಕಾರಣ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾದಕತೆ ಇತ್ತು.
